Diana is from Brasil and now she lives and works in Italy. Before  staying in Italy she worked in many different countries, such as Norway and Iceland. Now she has achieved the qualification to guide the excavator and is strongly motivated to work in the construction sector. When she arrive in our school, she said who felt strongly discriminated although her skills were often as useful as a man’s. Now she’s working for an enterprise which carries out public works.

QUESTION.- Why did you choose to train in a profession instead of another type of studies?

ANSWER.- I achieved the qualification to guide the excavator and I want to work in the construction sector because enterprises ask to have workers

Q.- Have you be trained in any else training course?

A.- Yes I follow some specializating training course also in Scuola Edile di Piacenza for safety.

Q.- How was the first day you worked in a building site?

A.- When I have started working on site the male workers were really shocked to see me at work and they didn’t believe that I could do it, but then they realized that I knew how to work like them, they still simply do not accept the feminine presence within the construction sites, also today.

Q.- How is the relationship with your colleagues?

A.- The great effort is to make the males understand that you can do it and that it is not for you that you are a woman who must necessarily think of something else but my husband also struggles.

Q.- How did you imagine the construction sector with much more women?

A.- It is possible, I must say that there is no problem except that of prejudice, which will be torn down with more women in the sector.

Q.- What would you say to a young girl who is considering joining the construction sector?

A.- I would say: “Women come there is work and together we can do it”.
